4X4 Car Hire Nairobi

Kenya’s national parks and game reserves are generally accessible with a 2WD vehicle. If you are touring as a group, a tour van with a pop-up roof will get the job done. However, if you intend on taking a safari during the rainy seasons (between March and May or between October and December) you should go for a 4×4 because some roads in the wildlife parks become quite muddy after rains requiring a hardy vehicle to traverse them.

If you intend to drive around the city, a 2WD vehicle is recommended because it is more fuel-efficient and it is also cheaper to hire compared to a 4×4.

The cost for hiring a low consumption 2WD vehicle starts from US$ 35 and a 4×4 vehicle starts from US$ 75 per day without insurance. The cost of hiring a tour van (7 seater) starts from US$ 180 per day and a mini-bus (25 seater) US$ 260 per day with insurance and driver included.

Insurance prices are between US$ 23 and US$ 32 per day. It is important that you pay for insurance as it prevents you from paying for the full worth of the vehicle in case of an accident or theft.

The cost of hiring a car does not include gas and a deposit is always required, often totaling to the estimated sum of hire.

Car rental companies can provide you with a driver for about US$ 20 per day.

Most car rental companies will ask you to pay using a credit card or a signed travelers cheque.

  1. I am looking for information on renting a small camper van with driver and a toilet to go from Nairobi to Homa Bay and back..

We would sleep in a guest house at night.

These vans are available all over Europe, USA Canada, Australia, New Zealand and maybe in south Africa but I cannot find information about aavailability in Kenya

We would not be coming for a holiday and do not want to go on Safari.
